Perilous times, indeed

Perilous times here in Durham

I am so dying to know what all the facts are in this Duke lacrosse case, so that I can really make an educated guess as to what went on.

The scene of the (alleged) crime(s).
THE house.

One thing is for sure, you can’t trust what anybody is saying. Everybody is spinning, spinning, spinning their angle. The defense attorneys are hired guns not only for legal purposes, but for p.r. purposes, as well.

The DA really messed up by disclosing as much as he did early on and guaranteeing that there would be a DNA match, but that still doesn’t mean that there’s not a case. Besides, there are more charges being considered than just sexual assault.

The photos of the dancer that supposedly show that she was banged up when she got there. . . I don’t buy it.

As far as the racial issues go, I think they are overblown. This isn’t a white vs. black thing and I don’t see opinions breaking down along those lines. And I also don’t buy that charges would have already been filed had the racial make-up of the parties been different.

Anyway, so I guess what I’m trying to say is that we just don’t have the whole picture and it’s impossible to get a sense of what really happened. I wish everyone would just cool it and the attorneys would just keep quiet and stop posturing because it sends public opinion off on stupid tangents.

In related news, Dan*Abrams of the Abrams Report was on the Duke campus today for his show.

He’s somewhere back by that chapel thing. If you squint, you can kinda see him . . .
Searching for Dan*Abrams. . .

He was on the Today show this morning and Katie made some comment about how she has lots of friends who are Duke alumni and are not happy about how Duke is being portrayed. I was like, what?! Was it in the sense of how dare Duke’s name be sullied by such seemly activities and that the DA is taking things too far? I don’t know, but it kind of pissed me off. Let’s not lose sight that at least right now, at the center of this is a woman who says she was raped and this was confirmed by the rape kit at the hospital. We’ll go on from there.

Or maybe we should bring in Oprah to clear this whole thing up.
the solution!

The haircut.

Quite clearly, Andrew needed a haircut. We had tried to give him trims here and there but that didn’t go very well. So we packed everybody into the mini-v and headed for Great*Clips.

Daniel also needed a haircut, so he got his done while sitting on Daddy’s lap, as usual. He’s an old pro.

Andrew sat on my lap for his haircut. And do you know what? He did GREAT! He was just watching and taking everything. He’d glance up and grin at the lady cutting his hair from time to time.

It was a little sad to see all that hair go. And gheesh, it was a lot of hair. I saved a chunk of it. I’m not sure why people save baby hair. I’m always slightly grossed out when I see chunks of baby hair. I think it really only has any sentimental value to the mother and not anybody else. I mean, we don’t save fingernail clippings. . . or maybe some people do.

I had saved some of Daniel’s hair from his first haircut which we did manage to do at home. The hair was in a klee*nex though, so you probably know where this is going. Yep, got thrown away, except for a small, small piece which is collecting dust on my dresser.

Anyway, so everyone is much happier now and he’s still cute as a button to us.

I don’t think we’ll have a shortage of pepper anytime soon.

Must. not. run. out. of. black. pepper.

Is there an item that, when you are at the grocery store, you will buy, even if it’s not on your list because you think you might be low and you certainly wouldn’t want to run out because to run out of said item would be a crisis?

Apparently, that item, for me, is pepper. We like pepper, yes we do, but it’s not like we couldn’t live without pepper for the few minutes that it would take to drive to the store, or heaven forbid, the few interminably long hours, if we couldn’t go immediately and had to wait until the next day.

Looks like we won’t have to either for the next, oh, ten years. :) I mean, we even have bulk peppercorns. I think we might wear our pepper grinder out before we even finish the jar.
Note to self: go mark pepper off the grocery list.

So, what do you have multiple items of in your pantry?

I love these flowers. . .

so what does this tell us about this creature?

Well, it has teeth, sharp teeth and it knows how to take bites now.
