I’m intimidated by my new camera.

June 21, 2006

There’s something to be said for having a digital camera that’s a couple of years old, has some wear and tear, and could be replaced at less cost than you paid originally. You are not really worried if you bang it or drop it accidently because there’s a plethora of new options just waiting to be oohed and ahhhhed over and then selected.

I opted not to go for the digital SLR in the end, but got a Sony DSC H-2, one of the ones with the bigger zooms. It’s got all of the same automatic capabilities that my Canon*Powershot had. It’s got all of the manual modes, as well. But I’m just scared of it. I’m scared that it’s not going to take as good of pictures as my Canon did and I’m going to feel like an idiot for not choosing a Cannon or trying to go for more bells and whistles. I’m scared to drop it or break it or hurt it in some way. That’s the thing about spending more than a couple of hundred bucks on something that you don’t just put on a stand in your house where it remains. It’s been resting on the mantle out of the way of dirty little hands and paws.

Anybody else do this?

Did I mention that . . .

we got two kitties?

Sure did. Off of Craig’s List. They are brother and sister, about 9 months old. Have already had their “operations.” The lady we go them from had a couple of dogs who weren’t being very nice to the kitties.

They already had names, Emily and Alex. Definitely not what I would have picked. I was lobbying for Max & Ruby, but Emily and Alex stuck for Daniel immediately. Except when he says their names, it comes out “Emily” and “Tex.”

Daniel loves the kitties soooooo much. He kind of spazzes out sometimes and gets frustrated when they run away from him, but it’s so cute. He shows the kitties his cars and says, “Oh, Kitty, I love you.”

I kind of felt like these kitties were meant for us. Another brother and sister set. Their age is just right — big enough to hold their own or know to run away from the boys. And when I went to check them out, I was surprised to realize that they were living at a house right around the corner from the emergency vet hospital where we took Willy and where Willy died. We hadn’t even been to that town since we went to the vet hospital with Willy in October 2004.

The kitties are very sweet and laid back. Emily constantly lays around and lets Daniel pick her up and carry her around. Alex is a little more circumspect. I’ll post some pics when I figure out how to use my new camera.
